Said a sad farewell to Frank, Belinda and the boys, also Carol , Belinda's Mum. Arrived in Dublin after a slightly bumpy flight. Our boarding passes said we were seat no 125 and 126, but when we got on the plane, we were in the second row. Knew we were on our way to Ireland! Raining when we arrived, took 3,000 hours to find our hotel which was only supposed to be 7 minutes away from the airport. Not a good start, although going through passport and customs at Dublin airport was a breeze. Getting the hire car was super easy so it was very frustrating to be so lost! Anyway after about 30 mins, we finally found the motel. Went downstairs, had some dinner - the waitress said would you like this booked to the room, so we said yes, ate dinner and headed off upstairs. This was about 830pm amd at about 10pm we get a call to say that we hadn't paid for our meals! Gary had to go back down and pay, very complicating! Obviously our interpretation of "do you want this booked to your room" was very different to theirs! Called Mike to wish him happy birthday, woke him up as he was staying at the Hunter Valley and had the day off work - very popular there too!
Woke up to a rainy misty day and thought we would not be able to see anything at all. However by the time we reached Glendalough, the rain had stopped and the sun actually came out. Had a great day, walked for about 4 1/2 hours and just loved it. The lakes were beautiful and so peaceful. Hundreds of people there but we were lucky and started early so by the time we were finished, the number of people had increased significantly. Had lunch at the pub at Laragh, Guinness and beef stew, just delicious accompanied by a Beamish and a Guinness. The publican told us of a waterfall about 5 minutes up the road with a fantastic view down the valley. Off we went and found the waterfall however the farmer who farmed in front of the waterfall had decided to burn off and the whole valley was full of smoke! Headed off to our B&B, a lovely little place just south of Rathdrum. Off further south tomorrow, haven't decided where yet but just know it will be amazing!
Good to see you back on air again. We were a bit concerned we hadn't heard from you for a couple of days - though you might have been held up at the Prague Airport by Interpol following the 'Great Beer Stein Heist'!!! I'm sure you would have been listed as suspects? Lovely photos of Ireland despite the overcast conditions, the clouds obviously are no deterrent to you. Enjoy driving along those roads with the overhanging trees and have a dark beer for us all!!! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
