Decided to get away early this morning from Kilkenny - shame the parking place didn't feel the same way. Our accommodation didn't have parking at it so we had to park a couple of streets down and have our ticket stamped to ensure we only had to pay €5. Checked with parking place to se if they were open at 7am to let us out and were reassured vigorously that someone would be there at 7am! So we are there at 715am, no one there and the parking place was actually closed. About 8am we found someone who told us that the parking place had decided to close for the day! Visions of spending another night in Kilkenny, decided to pay the parking amount regardless of cost to find it was only €8 anyway! Off to Tramore, south of Waterford, the beginning of the Copper Coast Road. Actually did some washing here, the machines are situated at service stations! Go figure! It followed the coast and was full of history, mainly regarding the copper mining undertaken in the area. At Newtown Cove they had a sign saying swimming allowed for men only, underneath they then said this was an old sign and was just for the history, all could swim. The coves looked great and we were tempted to swim as it looked gorgeous, unfortunately we didn't have towels so couldn't swim! Stopped at Ardmore And stopped at St Decland holy well. Saturated myself with the water as it is supposed to have healing properties. Arrived at Kinsale, which is the beginning of the Wild Atlantic Way to spend the night. Off to Charles Fort, what an absolutely amazing building! There is so much ancient history here, this fort was built in 1678 and is ennormous! Heading off to Cork tomorrow to kiss the Blarny Stone! Faith and begorah!!
Sensational photos of the coastline, all that green grass and blue water makes an amazing contrast. Lots of ruins too, makes this country look quite young I'm sure. Looks like you are seeing lots and are busy from dawn till dusk, hope you get time to have a wee dram late in the afternoon!! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
