After a good nights sleep headed off to downtown for some brekkie. Decided to buy drinks and pasties and sit in the park until it was time to board the hop on / hop off bus. Couple of dodgy looking guys worked out we were tourists (think the continual checking of the map gave it away!) and appeared to be eyeing off our bags and seemed to be interested in the same things we were! Bit scary but eventually managed to loose them. Had a great day on the bus - there are some amazing things to see in Budapest!
The citadel at the highest point on the Buda side is fantastic. I'd love to give a history lesson here but unfortunately what I listened to on the bus wasn't retained by my brain! We caught the funicular railway up to Buda Palace, also an amazing place! The architecture and opulence of these buildings!
One of the stops was the thermal baths, supposed to cure all ills from arthritis to digestive problems. It was so hot today, over 36 degrees that Gary and I decided that we would finish all bus tours, head back to motel and get our togs and jump back on bus to the baths and be cured of all ills. Perhaps first ill to be cured should have been sleeping in the afternoon because that's what we decided to do before we went for the swim! Or one of us did anyway! Consequently the bus we hopped back on took us back to the citadel, then stopped back in the township and said end of tours for today! No herbal spas, no cures of all ills! Decided then to head off to the New York Cafe, worlds greatest cafe! Beautiful place, we had a drink there, non alcoholic mind you, too bloody hot for alcohol!
Also took the boat trip up the Danube, interesting!
Heading off to Prague in the morning, funnily enough Frank was in Budapest today but has meetings all day ( yes he did!) and was flying back tonight so didn't get to see him! Shame he could have done the hop on/hop off with us!
I'm having great trouble trying to add the photos! Arggg! Grrrrr! Will give it one more try and if it doesn't work, no photos tonight!
Probably a good thing you had an afternoon nap at the motel, I imagine if you'd fallen asleep in the thermal baths you would have ended up in a stew (or like a stew)? The photos are coming up very well, just one little bit of advice - make sure you are loading the photos after a red wine. If that doesn't work have another one. I'm sure if that doesn't work you won't care what happens to the photos. Keep up the good work and enjoy the train ride to Prague! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
ReplyDeleteThis could have been a great read but had to ŕate it mediocre after I note how you spelt Budapest in the title ... OMG ... sooooo distracting. Great pics, enjoy a fantastic holiday.
