woke to a beautiful day today, slight chill this morning, brilliant blue skies and the sun shining! Off to Prague Castle, my gosh what an absolutely magnificent place! Took the tram, following Belinda's instructions and got off at the wrong stop! Who knew that when they stop, they put the name up of the next stop, not the stop they are actually at! However, we found the magnificent Wellenstein gardens with the Senate building inside. The inner roof of the building outside has all of these murals painted on it. Beautiful, I feel like I can't stop using words like beautiful and magnificent and amazing and more when I describe Prague, it is truly a great city! Hopped back on the train to travel to the castle, seventy million people waiting to get in and it was only just after nine! All persons entering the grounds have to undertake a bag search and have the wand waved over them. We were only in the line for about 15 minutes and the guards were very nice and friendly. First stop in the castle grounds was St Vitus's Cathederal - unbelievable! The opulence inside is indescribable and is a breathtaking example of ecclesiastical architecture ( yes I can read the information pamphlets!). The oldest surviving church in the castle complex is the Basilica of St George. Nowhere near as ostentatious as St Vitus but quite charming in its own way. Saw the torture chamber, watch out when we get home kids, have found new ways of making you behave! Spent hours wandering around the grounds, there is so much to do. Climbed the bell tower of the Cathederal, all 287 steps of the spitral staircase, sixty thousand feet in the air, blood nose material! The view was stunning. Then walked back down to Charles Bridge, made my wishes on the monument at the place where St John of Nepomuk was thrown into the river in the year 1393. Touch the brassy cross and whatever you wish will come true!
Off to Tiezen tomorrow, it is a concentration camp used by the Nazis in World War One for propaganda!
Not sure there were many Nazis around during Workd War One, but hey, you're the one reading the pamphlets?! Terrible of Belinda to leave you to your own devices, alone in the city, she should know better! Looks like the weather man is doing the right thing by you, beautiful blue sky in those photos. Love reading about it. Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
