Went and had a look at old town in Vienna this morning. Motel we stayed in was in a great spot and quite a nice room but no air conditioning and it was quite a hot day. Lots of heating equipment but not equipped for the heat. Obviously have so little of it. Absolutely loved the parts of Vienna that we saw. Each building just seemed more opulent and amazing. The photos below just don't do them justice! St Stephens Cathederal was beautiful, just when you think you are all Cathederal 'd out, another one comes along that is just as beautiful. The money, time and effort that have gone into building them takes your breath away. We love Austria so if we win lotto I think I would come back! Started the road trip to Salzburg about 9am, so glad we went the way we did. Stopped at a few small towns along the way, just lovely. The country side is so green and crisp, it all looks so clean and tidy. The mountains are magnificent and Austria is just the way I imagined it. On the way to Hallstatt we stopped at a place called Koppen-brullerhohle and went for a short walk to some caves. We wished we'd had more time but the tour of the caves would have been another hour and we were really keen to get to Hallstatt. Went through Bad Aussee, gorgeous place, on to Obentraum where we saw a fellow swimming across the lake - during a thunderstorm! And the longest and steepest cable car ride that I have ever seen and been so glad that I wasn't on it! Hallstatt and the whole lake area was just gorgeous - I'm running out of words to describe the places we are seeing, they just take my breath away - again! Got to Salzburg to find the motel I booked wasn't as close to town as I thought! Beautiful new modern motel but about 15 minutes drive from the centre of Salzburg. I am sure the ad said 2km walk to old town! Supposed to be doing Sound of Music tour tomorrow but more rain forecast, lots of rain later this afternoon so hope the weather forecasters are wrong!

I'm sure you won't let a little rain dampen your enthusiasm? Looks like you've seen plenty during a big day on the road. Good luck with the Sound of Music tour, hope you didn't embarrass yourselves by singing too loudly!! Love Pam and Vernon
ReplyDeleteNot too many 'takes your breath away' ... you are getting old so don't waste breaths! And no Julie Andrews impersonations or you will be deported.
