Day Day 10 & 11 Combined - day 3 & 4 of road tripthe

Salzburg - Sound of Music Trip. Well the hills were alive - with the sound of rain! Now I like the odd drop but it bucketed down at various stages of the tour but luckily it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for singing and reminiscing! What a great trip, Anna our guide was great and Ferdinand our bus driver did a great job in difficult conditions! Going to most of the places where the movie was filmed was just the best. Salzburg is a beautiful city! So much to see and do and so little time. The little town of Mondsee where the wedding was filmed is stunning, even in the rain. Actually all of the villages in Austria are beautiful, green and so neat! Following the tour, we walked back into
Old Town, up 258 steps to the best lookout in the whole of Salzburg - according to Anna! I must admit, it was definitely worth the climb. There were these stations of the cross built all the way up which then led to a sculpture of the hanging of Jesus on the cross. Europe is certainly a religious country! Statues of Jesus on the cross everywhere, even on the side of the road at random intervals! Ate dinner at Uncle Vans, a little Vietnamese place down one of the alleys, great tucker. Sun came out later in the afternoon so hoped it would be a good day tomorrow.
Up early and off to Innsbruck this morning, again very wet weather and very low cloud. Made for an interesting trip, especially as we ended up in Germany and still can't work out how we got there. Went into a service station on the side of the highway in Austria once we left Salzburg and ended up on our way to Munich! Thank God for the sat Nav as she got us back into Austria and on our way into Innsbruck! Arrived there about 9am and spent about 3 hrs exploring the town, very pretty. Couldn't go up the mountain in the cable car unfortunately as the cloud cover was so low, we wouldn't have seen anything! Just wandered the town and then headed off on the road again for St Gallen in Switzerland. Spending the night here before we head off to Nancy in France. Have changed the intinerary a couple of times, due to timeframes and also deciding we wanted to avoid capital cities for a while! Meandered our way through a couple of lovely villages on the way to St Gallen. Rain had stopped by the time we got here about 3pm so we had a wander down around the Old Town, staying in a great motel in the Old Town. Switzerland is also a beautiful country, haven't seen anywhere yet that we have thought was ho hum!
I'm going to put some more photos up but again I'm sorry they won't have captions on them and it makes it hard to work out where they are but I am just not having any luck with the photos! There will be photos of the Sound of Music tour, our walk around Old Town of Salzburg, walking up the steps to the top of the town, the trip to Innsbruck and then on to St Gallen.

  1. Try not to break the satnav by driving around in circles all day!! Not sure about this 'St Gallen' business, is he related to Paul Gallen? Shame he played (Paul, not the Saint) his 300th game this weekend and it was against the Broncos at Lang Park and he lost badly!! The crowd was very sympathetic and gave him the reception he deserved!! One good thing about the inclement weather - you seem to have got rid of lots of those annoying crowds. Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
