Amsterdam to Colonge
Had a nice easy start today. Up about 7am, packed all our gear, went downstairs for breakfast and then back upstairs for a snooze before leaving for Colonge about 1030am. No dramas getting here, lots of rain again today but it had eased off by the time we got here about 2pm. Had booked the Rhine River cruise for 430pm, thought we'd have plenty of time so decided to find a laundromat. Managed to get clothes washed but not dried as running out of time to make cruise. Caught taxi to waterfront, arrived in time and cruised up the Rhine river for just over 1 hour. Then went and saw the most amazing cathedral ever. They started to build it in the 12th century and finished it 600 years later! Let me tell you it looks like it took that long, the detail, the size, the stained glass windows! Sheer beauty, out of the million (feels like that amount!) of cathedrals we have seen in Europe, we both think this maybe the most beautiful. The photos really don't do it justice.
Walked back to the motel, back to the laundromat to dry the clothes. Gary went off to look for something for dinner. I waited and waited and thought he had got lost. There we were like a couple of backpackers eating - wait for it! - fish and chips in the laundromat! If you have ever been to Colonge, there would have to be hundreds and hundreds of restaurants in the city centre, pretty amazing actually and we end up eating fish and chips in a laundromat! No doubt about it, we have style! However, they were pretty good fish and chips!
There is a rumour that the three wise men are interred in a tomb in the Cologne Cathedral. The is an ugly rumour there has never been such a thing as a wise man, but we don't believe that do we? Enjoy the drive back to Prague. Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
