Day 16 - Day 7 of the road trip

Amsterdam Day Two
What a great day we had today. Hired bikes from the hotel and took off up town, well actually we took off but had no idea where we were going! A lovely young girl took pity on us and checked our map and we all realised we were heading in totally the wrong direction. God only knows where we were going but it definitely was no where near the town centre! However we finally found ourselves heading towards town. This was about 830am and not many people on the bike paths. Everyone rides bikes here and scooters are allowed on the bike paths - maniacs! All of them! I swear we saw thousands and thousands of bikes parked let alone the ones on the paths! Had a great time but, between riding all over town and walking around as well! I love Amsterdam, it is a great city, very vibrant. We had morning tea at this great coffee shop on the canal, hopped into a cheese museum and tasted some yummy cheeses, walked up to Central Station which was built in the 1800's, had a boat ride through the canals, walked past Ann Franks house and visited the "red light" district! What would a trip to Amsterdam be without a trip through the red light district! Took a couple of photos of some interesting looking women in some little cubicles on display to all. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect but it made my eyes pop! I'm sure I had at least a dozen conversations with Gary without him hearing a single word I said! Great place Amsterdam, we have loved every minute here. Lazy day tomorrow, off to Colonge in Germany for the night. It is only a couple of hours away so we can have a late start.

  1. Everyone I've ever spoken to has loved Amsterdam and it sounds like you've had a pretty good look around and have come to the same conclusion. Good of you to include a photo of your motel the 'Sex Palace', I suppose it's a bit like the old 'Peoples Palace' in Brisbane....but different? I see you haven't got sick of that black beer yet, good training for Ireland!! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
