Nancy to Saint Quentin
Bit of a cruising trip today, although again I think Vernon has pre-programmed Satty to be as obnoxious as possible. She was convinced that St Quentin was way over on the west coast line near Rouen! Way out of our way. I begged, I pleaded for her to recognise that The St Quentin we wanted to go to was not where she was convinced it was! In the end I had to turn her off and again revert back to my own talent as a sat Nav! Got us to St Quentin where I then gave her another chance to get us to our motel and after taking us around in circles, we eventually got there! Luckily we are of a forgiving nature, plus we also need her to get the rest of the way back to Prague!
St Quentin is a lovely little place. Walked down to the canal to have lunch, bought a cask of red wine (cheaper this way!) a couple of sandwiches and sat near the canel and watched the weirdest fishing ever. These guys have the longest poles I have ever seen, and I am talking about their fishing rods for those of you whose mind may have journeyed into places it shouldn't. It was about 30 ft long and in two pieces. They would put what appeared to be bread on the end of the line and push it out into the canal and then when they caught a fish would take half the rod off to bring it in. They were the tiniest fish that I have ever seen!
Walked up to the Champs -Élysées after lunch, yes St Quentin has ts own Champs-Élysées
, just like Nancy had its own Arc de Triomphe and a Trevi fountain. Had a look at the Basilica at the top of town - this had to have the highest ceilings I have yet seen! It was just an amazing place but in disrepair sadly! They are in the process of doing it up so I hope that it goes ahead as it was built in the 12th Century. Didn't realise that we are actually travelling rough hewestern front from WW1. Off tomorrow to visit a couple of places where he Australians helped fight off the Germans, before we head off to Villers-Bretonnaux. Really looking forward to this.
Soooo, you've worked out my secret plan with the satnav....I programed her to follow the bad weather!! I actually programed her to send you to San Quentin....almost got you there! Looks like you've worked her out and are doing it your way. I wouldn't upset her too much though...next stop - the middle of the English Channel!!! The weather looks good and the photos reflect your skill with the camera. Such iconic buildings, parks and rivers. So much to see, maybe when you go back next year? Not too sure about drinking a carton of wine while you travel through France, what would the French say...sacre bleu?? Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
ReplyDeleteShe is now my friend! She got us here to Amsterdam without any hysterics!
