Day 12 of the trip - day five of the road trip

St Gallen to Nancy in France
Loved St Gallen, it is such a pretty place with great old buildings. Already to leave, put destination in sat Nav, started off and Sat Nav decided to have a melt down, would not talk to us, would not shut down would not do anything! Bloody hell, we had to rely on maps to get us on our way! Mercy dash to a tourist info centre that was open, thank God as no shops open on Sundays in Switzerland! Just coffee shops! Actually should have known the day was going to not start well, when we got up and looked for somewhere to have breakfast. Found a Starbucks open, spent 31 euros on brekkie and walked back to motel to pack and leave and realised brekkie had been included in the room rate! So to get our monies worth we sat there and has some food and then put fruit and croissants in our bag to take with us! Then couldn't find the room key to give to reception, checked every bag and the car and the room to then realise Gary had given it to me for safe keeping and it was in my shorts pocket! After this was when the Sat Nav had its melt down! One would think by this time, we were ready to throw in the towel! However a lovely girl in the tourist info centre gave me directions to get out of town and we were soon on our way. Satty was still not talking to us so I used my terrific navigation skills and got us to Mulhouse I must modestly say, quite brilliantly! We decided to stop at this little place called Landenburg, before Basel because it had a picture of a historic house on the river. Great decision, it was just beautiful, climbed the turret of an old tower that looked over some river, forgot to look for its name, wandered down the old streets to the river, had a sorbet and soon we were on our way. Then we were trying to find the right road to Nancy  thank God  Satty was again talking to us! On our way we then thought Shit what about toll passes, tried to go off the highway to service stations to obtain one, Was going down one way roads the wrong way, being yelled at in French! We finally found a lovely lady who spoke English, the other 25,000 we asked apparently didn't ! She informed us we didn't need a toll pass for France, only for Switzerland, which we already had. So with great relief we were again on our way.
Arrived in Nancy about 530pm to find we are staying in this absolutely beautiful hotel built in 1409! Has been refurbished of course but was originally an Episcopal house where the Primate of Lorraine lived. It was built between the Catherderal and the garden of the "Nuns of Union" . It is truly beautiful and so graceful. Gary and I fit right in 😏. Off to St Quentin tomorrow, about 40 minutes from Villers-Brettonaux so really looking forward to this.
