Day 12 and 13. Mulranny, Ballina and Omagh

After we left Mulranny, we decided to explore the island of AcHill. They apparently have the highest sea cliffs of Europe but the boats weren't running the day we were there. I think they also manage the weather that comes into the Cliffs of Moher because this place is determined that we will not see cliffs!! Still determined to see something whilst the weather was good, off we set. The lovely lady in the information centre told me it would take us 3 hours to tour the island, started at 0930 and finally left about 230pm in the afternoon. This island was just beautiful, saw megalithic tombs (for those who don't know what this is, the tomb was over 5,000 years old so that makes it megolithic!) as if everyone doesn't know this. Thing is we climbed this hill through mud, water, prickly bushes and trees to arrive at a bunch of rocks that we hoped was it! Claiming it is anyway! Saw the deserted village, very sad as it was a thriving villlage until the famine hit and the families just left. Had lunch at a lovely little coffee shop at Doogort, a sandwich with nachos! Where else? Decided to head to a beautiful little bay called Keem, unbelievably beautiful. We had a swim in the Atlantic Ocean and it was fornicating freezing! Legs went numb in about 10 seconds but the bay had looked so beautiful and we were hot from looking for the megolithic tombs(love showing off my knowledge here) so decided to take the plunge! We were glad we did but Jeepers, I thought we were in Iceland! Stayed the night in Ballina, yes popped home didn't tell anyone , stayed at Ballina then came back! 😳
Headed up to Sligo and Mullaghamore Beach, loved both of these places. Saw a At breakfast at Mulranny House we met an Australian guy, called Kevin of all things and he had been a pilot for Cathay Pacific and had suffered a heart attack. He didn't like Sligo, found it a bit dark but we really liked both places! Staying at Omagh tonight and then off to Londonderry tomorrow for the night. On the way to the beach we stopped at the waterfall at Glencar, just lovely and only a short walk. Also on the roads here you see these ginormous tractors towing horse floats, petrol tanks, anything thing they like! Also Sean, the sheep (pictured first up) seems to follow us everywhere we go. Love the fact you will be sitting  at a cafe somewhere and the sheep will be keeping you company!

  1. Good to see you back blogging, you know it's the first thing we do every morning is check the travelers!! You seem to have picked up some of the crazy Irish mindset - what were you thinking swimming there after seeing all those photos of the sharks caught in the bay??? Stunning photos, Ireland is really turning it on for you, you seem to have done so much and you've still got lots of time left. Happy travels. Love Pam and Vernon xxxxx
